Learning Beyond the Classroom

Whitcliffe Mount prides itself on the range of opportunities it provides for students outside the classroom. These opportunities generally fall in to two categories: Bringing topics being studied in the classroom to life and enriching the learning experience for students.

The PE department is well known locally and regionally for our successes with traditional and more progressive sports; the music, drama and performing arts department continually stun audiences with their major productions (these have recently included Little Shop of Horrors, Bugsy Malone, Beauty and The Beast, Dracula, and Les Miserables); the Learning Resource Centre runs a variety of craft, reading and catch-up clubs and the list goes on!

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme continues to thrive. The award requires students, among other things, to spend a night camping in the countryside. Other residential trips have included; ski trips to Austria, America and Italy; as well as sports tours to Barcelona.

As a school, we see these opportunities as invaluable elements in the personal development of our students; their physical and mental wellbeing and their knowledge and understanding of the world around them. We strive to ensure all students have the opportunity to benefit from enrichment.
