Homework (KS3)

Homework is a key part of being successful in any subject. Completing home learning tasks will help students to build links between subject components, strengthen recall and broaden knowledge. As such, students are required to complete tasks set within each subject area.

Key Stage 3 (Year 7, 8 and 9) students will be set at least one homework task per subject, every two weeks. Each task will take around 30 minutes to complete

Subject	KS3
Art	Students are asked to complete a task each half term from a list of ‘take away’ Art challenges. These tasks are designed to support students to practice skills and consolidate their in-class learning. This is to be completed either on paper or in sketchbooks.
Technology	Students are given a practical write up planning page during each subject specialism by their class teacher at the beginning of the project. These tasks are based on the content covered during the project/lessons are aimed at embedding key knowledge and understanding for retrieval and application. Students are asked to complete task/s in the back of their Technology exercise books.
PE	Students are expected to participate in extra-curricular sport, either in school or externally (outside of school). This will allow students to lead a healthy, active lifestyle and as a result benefit from improved physical and mental health.
Music & Drama	Students are expected to review appropriate content from in-class provided knowledge organisers and use this information in lessons regularly. There is not an expectation to produce any written work, but a review of knowledge will be completed through questioning in lessons. This will allow students to deepen their understanding in the subject.
PACE	Students are asked to complete a task each half term from a list of ‘take away’ PACE challenges. The tasks are designed to reinforce and build on their in-class learning. This is to be completed in their PACE book or on paper.
English	What: Students will be given a 'Nando's Homework Menu' for each unit and directed, when assignments are set, to complete a task of an appropriate difficulty level. How is h/w given? Homework will be set via the MS Teams online Assignments platform. Students will be made aware of when assignments have been set by teachers in class. Where to complete? Homework is to be completed digitally, or on separate paper and evidence uploaded to the MS Teams assignment - not to be completed in exercise books. Purpose? To practice skills taught & developed in class and develop wider knowledge of literary texts and contexts.
French / Spanish	Students are expected to complete either: Vocabulary learning from content mat provided in lessons. This is tested in subsequent lessons. A reading or writing task to be completed in their exercise books. These tasks help students to develop their knowledge of key language and retain it.
Geography, RS & History	Students are asked to complete a project task from each humanities subject each term from a list of ‘take away’ Humanities subject challenges. These will be linked with current learning. Students will be given mini homework’s twice a half term including a mixture of retrieval activities & scholarly (reading) comprehension activities. Homework will be set on paper, uploaded onto class charts and marked through Microsoft forms.
Computing	Students will be given a fortnightly homework sheet/online questions via Quizizz based around prior and current learning to enhance retrieval and retention skills. There will be one extended homework piece per year via Teams that will be based around a research topic.
Maths	Sparx (online) homework set in line with the KS3 curriculum being delivered at the time consisting of a mix of current topics and previous topics. It is set automatically and personalised to each student based on previous performance. Work must be completed in homework books with working shown and answers entered and checked on-line. Teachers will check homework books on each deadline day.
Science	Students are given ‘meaningful’ homework to be completed in the exercise book. Homework will supplement classwork and help retrieve key learning.

Home Learning (KS4)

Home learning is a key part of being successful in any subject. Completing home learning tasks will help students to build links between subject components, strengthen recall and broaden knowledge. As such, students are required to complete tasks set within each subject area.

Key Stage 4 students (Year 10 and 11) students will be set one home learning task per subject, every week. Each task will take at least 30 minutes to complete. These will support students in developing recall skills, as well as prepare them for examinations and assessments.

Subject	Activity
Art	Students are asked to complete outstanding coursework weekly directed by their class teacher when appropriate. Students are asked to complete task/s connected to the development work in their sketchbooks. These tasks are based on the content covered during the project/lessons are aimed at further demonstrating student’s knowledge and understanding.
Technology	Students are asked to complete tasks to support their internally assessed component weekly for each subject specialism. Set by their class teacher when appropriate. Students are asked to complete task/s in their respective coursework folder. These tasks are based on the content covered during the project/lessons are aimed at further demonstrating student’s knowledge and understanding. Students are asked (where appropriate – Engineering/Food) to use revision techniques to recall and remember key knowledge and understanding for formal written examinations – at least once a half term.
PE / Sports Science	Students are asked to complete tasks to prepare for their PSA’s weekly, directed by their class teacher when appropriate. Students are asked to complete task/s electronically and submit to class teacher via Teams/Email. These tasks are based on the content covered during the lessons and are aimed at further demonstrating student’s knowledge and understanding.

Health & Social Care
Enterprise & Marketing	Students are asked to complete outstanding coursework tasks in Achieve when required. Students are asked (when appropriate) to use revision techniques to recall and remember key knowledge and understanding for formal written examinations – at least once a half term.
English	What: Students will be given a 'Nando's Homework Menu' for each GCSE literature text studied and directed, when assignments are set, to complete a task of an appropriate difficulty level. The half-term after studying a key literature text, interleaved project homeworks will be set. When approaching key assessments or external exams, guided revision including specific tasks set by individual teachers to support gaps in skills or knowledge will be set. How is h/w given? Homework will be set via the MS Teams online Assignments platform. Students will be made aware of when assignments have been set by teachers in class. Where to complete? Homework is to be completed digitally, or on separate paper and evidence uploaded to the MS Teams assignment - not to be completed in exercise books. Purpose? To practice skills taught & developed in class. To develop wider knowledge of literary texts and contexts. To aid in recall and retention of key skills and knowledge prior to external examinations.
French & Spanish	Students are asked to complete the following (on rotation) Funky club. A task is set by the class teacher and completed on the website. The final dictation task is written in their exercise books. This supports students in developing their listening and speaking skills. A writing or reading exam-style question to complete in their exercise books. This supports students’ development of exam skills.
Geography & History	Once every two weeks students are given exam questions/retrieval tasks to help recall information over time. These will be based on topics they have previously studied.
Computing	Computer Science – Students are given regular homework based upon topics that have been and are being covered to enforce recap and recall of key knowledge and understanding. Many of these are in the form of exam style questions. Ongoing programming homework is also set for independent completion.
Maths	Sparx (online) homework set in line with the KS4 curriculum being delivered at the time consisting of a mix of current topics and previous topics. It is set automatically and personalised to each student based on previous performance. Work must be completed in homework books with working shown and answers entered and checked on-line. Teachers will check homework books on each deadline day. Once Mocks have been completed in Year 11, Sparx becomes optional and students receive fortnightly “Purple Papers” which are past exam papers the students need to complete. These are given out and handed in to class teachers who mark them and then go through them with the students.
Statistics	This is set once a fortnight by the class teacher and follows the curriculum covered in class, both current to provide further practice and historic to aid recall. Questions will include exam questions on the topics covered. These are to be completed in student books and are handed in and marked by the class teacher.
Science	Y10 students are given one meaningful piece of homework a week. This is to be completed in the exercise book. Home learning will also be set once a week on Seneca, this will be completed on the website or app. Homework will supplement classwork and help retrieve key learning. Y11 students are given one meaningful piece of homework a week. This is to be completed in the exercise book. Home learning will also be set once a week on Seneca, this will be completed on the website or app. Homework will supplement classwork and help retrieve key learning.
